Spokane Gets Wild, Loses To Canadians

A pitching duel through five innings turned ugly for the Spokane Indians Thursday in a 5-1 Northwest League loss to Vancouver.

Spokane starter Ian Ferguson pitched five quality innings, giving up four infield hits, allowing one unearned run and striking out eight. Jebson Thomas relieved in the sixth and never found his control or recorded an out. Thomas walked the first two batters he faced, was called for a balk and threw two wild pitches, the second scoring Jeremy Schied. Brad Henderson followed with a single to drive in Cristian Reyes and drive Thomas to the bench.

Rafael Rinconnes relieved Thomas and got the first man out with a groundout. However, he walked the next two to load the bases and gave up a two-run single to G.W. Keller.

Darvin Withers pitched four near-flawless innings for the Canadians before giving way to former Washington State pitcher Matt O’Brien, who went 2 2/3 innings and picked up the win.
