Driver Cited For Suspended License, 2 Passengers Arrested

Kristen Kromer St Staff writer

Spokane police officers happened on a car full of trouble last week.

Officers stopped a man Friday at about 3:15 a.m. for driving in two lanes of traffic on Sharp at Normandie. The driver immediately told officers he had a suspended driver’s license, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

Police confirmed that Robert L. Stanley, 24, who gave his address as 1508 E. Hartson, had a suspended license and issued him a citation. His car was towed to be impounded, but he was released.

A passenger, 25-year-old David J. Hammer, a transient, had an outstanding warrant for escape and was arrested and booked on the felony warrant.

Police told another passenger, Jennifer A. Stanley, 22, she was free to leave, but she became confrontational, yelled at the officers and refused to cooperate, Cottam said. She stood in the street rather than on the side of the road as officers requested, he added.

They again told her she was free to leave and was warned she was occupying the time of three officers and could be arrested for obstructing. When officers escorted her to the side of the road, she pushed an officer and was then placed under arrest, Cottam said.

When she was placed in the patrol car, she kicked one officer. She was booked into jail on a charge of assaulting an officer. Stanley gave her address as 1508 E. Hartson.

A fourth person in the car was released.

Adult store robbed

An adult business employee told police that a man and woman robbed the downtown store Friday night, police said.

The employee said the couple entered Best Buy Adult Entertainment, 303 W. Second, about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 23, police said. They looked at some merchandise, then left.

The two returned about 11 p.m. just before the employee was about to close the store. He said the woman bought a bottle of lotion and left. Meanwhile, the man walked around the counter, said he had a handgun, and demanded the money from the cash register, police said.

The employee described the man as white, 25 to 30 years old, about 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, with short dark hair and a square face. The clerk said the man walked with a limp. The woman was described as Hispanic or Native American, about 5-foot-3, 110 pounds, with black hair pulled back, wearing tight jeans and a tailored jacket.

Anyone with information on either of the suspects is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
