Ione, Nespelem Win Block Grants
The towns of Ione and Nespelem and Lincoln County are among 15 local governments throughout Washington to be awarded big federal community development block grants.
A $500,000 grant to Lincoln County will be used to establish a countywide housing rehabilitation program. The program will assist families whose income is 80 percent or less of the county’s median income.
In northern Pend Oreille County, the town of Ione will get $495,427 to build a new 5,000-square-foot library and community center, with space for social service organizations, a kitchen and a computer classroom.
Nespelem, in the heart of the Colville Indian Reservation will receive $588,327 to build a new fire station and replace a 1956 firetruck.
The community development grants were awarded by the state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development, which administers the federal program.
