Train Derailment Closes Highway 95

Eleven train cars derailed Friday night south of Naples, temporarily closing U.S. Highway 95.

The southbound Union Pacific train derailed at about 9 p.m.; four of the 11 derailed cars were loaded with banded lumber, wheat and canola pellets.

At the time of the derailment, it was believed that some of the cars struck U.S. Highway 95 bridge. That prompted officials to close the highway for more than two hours.

Crews found no structural problems with the bridge and none of the cars were carrying hazardous materials.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
