UI Loses Shooting Touch, Falls To Long Beach State

It was a case of hot and cold for the Idaho Vandals on Saturday at Memorial Gym in Moscow.

A red-hot first half followed by an ice-cold second half resulted in a 79-68 Big West Conference loss to the Long Beach State 49ers.

The loss means Idaho will head to the conference tourney as the Eastern Division’s No. 4 seed, while Nevada goes as the No. 3 seed.

The Vandals (13-14, 6-8) shot 54 percent (13 of 24) from the field in the first half to take a 38-34 lead. But Idaho made just 11 of 29 shots (38 percent) in the second and was outscored 45-30.

Meanwhile, the 49ers (18-9, 12-3) hung tough through the first 20 minutes despite shooting just 33 percent from the field (13 of 39) and came out in the second half and buried 52 percent of their shots.

Alli Nieman scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Idaho. Susan Woolf added 17 points.

Reserve Reta Sula scored a game-high 21 points for LBSU.
