Lundy Benshoof celebrated his 100th birthday with an open house Feb. 19 at Holman Gardens.

Mr. Benshoof was born Feb. 23, 1900, in Wayne Nebraska.

He and his wife Pearle were married in 1926, and he moved his family to Otis Orchards from Jay Em, Wyo., in the 1940s.

Mr. Benshoof retired from Kaiser Aluminum.

He became a member of the Spokane Valley Golden K Club - the first and only Kiwanis Club for senior citizens - at the age of 99.

He has three children, Cavil Benshoof and Leona Albertson, both of Spokane and Lyman Benshoof, Fairbanks, Alaska. His wife died.

He attributes his long life to sugar cookies, coffee with cream and staying active.
