Wwii Bomb Found In Osaka, Defused

Japanese disposal experts on Sunday defused an unexploded bomb believed to have been dropped by U.S. forces during World War II, police said.

The 1-ton bomb was unearthed in January on a construction site in a residential area of Osaka, 255 miles west of Tokyo.

Police stopped subway trains running through the neighborhood and closed off a section of an expressway passing near the site during the 2-1/2-hour operation to defuse the bomb.

World War II-era explosives are occasionally found in cities such as Osaka and Tokyo, which were heavily bombed during the war by U.S. aircraft.
