“I would like to do portraits which will appear as revelations to people in 100 years time,” said Vincent Van Gogh in 1890. “Van Gogh: Face to Face,” the first comprehensive exhibition solely of the Dutch master’s portraits opened Sunday at the Detroit Institute of Arts. It showcases 31 drawings and 36 paintings, many of which have not been seen in this country before. Included is Lullaby: Madame Augustine Roulin Rocking a Cradle. It runs through June 4 before moving to Boston and Philadelphia. The exhibition includes works on loan from private collectors and museums the world over, as well as the Detroit museum’s Van Goghs.
