Irene (Olmstead) Kuhns Spokane

Private graveside service for Irene J. (Olmstead) Kuhns, 82, will be held at a later date at the Saltese Cemetery. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Kuhns died Tuesday.

She owned and operated Aqua Beauty Salon in the Spokane Valley for 30 years.

Mrs. Kuhns had been living at the Evans House Adult Family Home for the past year.

Her husband, Roy, died in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Dawson of Spokane; a son, Kenneth Kuhns of Phoenix; a brother, Clarence Olmstead of Hood River, Ore.; a sister, Ruth Greenlee of Spokane; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Eugene Jones Mead

Service for Eugene M. Jones, 73, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home

Born in Clyde, Texas, Mr. Jones died Monday.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

In 1950 he moved to Spokane. He was a toll-line and repeater worker for AT&T for 38 years.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies, the El Katif Shrine and Arab Patrol, Eagles Lodge 2, the Telephone Pioneers, the American Legion, the Order of Repeatermen and Toll Testboardmen, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Green Bluff Grange.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Evelyn; three daughters, Cheryl Heinemeyer of Richland, Karra Jones of Martinez, Calif., and Lori Higgins of Santa Claus, Ind.; his mother, Ruth Jones of Grants Pass, Ore.; two sisters, Wanda Bell of Ukiah, Calif., and Katie Holt of Rogue River, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Kirk Gardner Hayden, Idaho

Memorial service for Kirk Daniel Gardner, 38, will be at 3 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. A reception will follow at the Hayden Chapel Gathering Center.

Mr. Gardner, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died March 3 from injuries suffered in a one-car accident near Hope, Idaho.

He graduated in 1979 from Coeur d’Alene High School and started his own video business, The Movie Exchange, in 1984 in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Gardner later started Inland Video with his brother.

He was active in outdoor recreation and sports.

Survivors include two daughters, Taija and Kianna Gardner, and their mother, Misty Gardner, all of Valleyford; his mother, Jean Gardner of Hayden; his father and stepmother, Dan and Lori Gardner of Post Falls; a brother, Scott Gardner of Post Falls; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Minnie Flinn Spokane

Visitation for Minnie Blanch Flinn, 101, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Cardston, Alberta, Mrs. Flinn died Friday.

She graduated from high school in 1917 in Cardston.

Her family came by covered wagon to the Salt Lake City area and farmed.

Mrs. Flinn came to Spokane in 1929 and married Clarence Flinn in 1930.

She worked at Woolworth’s for 25 years and retired in 1964. She also wrote poetry and won an award during Expo 74 for “Expo Memories.”

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Riverside Ward.

Her husband died in 1972.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilynn Thompson of Spokane; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ursula Houchens Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Ursula Houchens, 62, will be at 10 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at the Valley (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Darmstadt, Germany, Mrs. Houchens died Thursday.

She came to the United States in 1956 and was 23-year Chewelah resident.

Mrs. Houchens was a waitress in Chewelah for the past 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; three sons, Todd Houchens of Chewelah, Dan Ashton of Everett,and Mike Ashton of Federal Way, Wash.; two sisters, Val Riley of Staten Island, N.Y., and Erica Barsch of Darmstadt; and 10 grandchildren.

Kenneth Fulp Greenville, N.C.

Service for Kenneth S. “Ken” Fulp, 55, was March 1 at Fulp Moravian Church in Walnut Cove, N.C.

Mr. Fulp, a former 20-year Spokane resident, died Feb. 27. He was born in Forsyth County, N.C.

He moved to Greenville from Spokane in 1996.

Mr. Fulp worked in the automotive industry and most recently at the East Carolina Auto and Truck Center in Greenville.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; two sons, Paul Fulp of Spokane and Bruce Fulp of Danbury, N.C.; three daughters, Emily Fulp of Spokane, Tamara Fulp of Nashville, Tenn., and Tondra Walker of King, N.C.; two brothers, James Fulp Jr. of Sherrills Ford, N.C., and Jerry Fulp of Germanton, N.C.; four sisters, Dianne Bullin of Walnut Cove, Joan Fulp of El Granada, Calif., Patricia Hannen of Balboa Island, Calif., and Pamela Fulp of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Malcolm `Max’ Gottschalk Spokane

Memorial service for Malcolm O. “Max” Gottschalk, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gottschalk, who was born in Everett, died Thursday.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington.

During World War II he served in the Navy as a fighter pilot. He was a member of the Fireballs.

Mr. Gottschalk and his wife, Patsy, lived in Kennewick for 10 years before moving to Spokane in 1960.

He was a real estate broker in Washington and Idaho.

Five years ago Mr. Gottschalk and his wife moved to the Sagle, Idaho, area and lived on Lake Pend Oreille. They recently moved back to Spokane.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church and a past president of Central Lutheran Church. He was a board member of the Riverview Lutheran Retirement Center.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years; a son, Gus Gottschalk of Issaquah, Wash.; two daughters, Becky Farney of Bellevue and Gretchen Riesenweber of Kirkland, Wash.; a sister, Shirley Kilbury of Chandler, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Share Fund in care of Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Jack Jellison Tensed, Idaho

Graveside service for Jack Jellison, 77, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jellison, a retired cowboy and farmer, died Thursday.

He was born in Harlowton, Mont., and had worked as a cowboy and line rider on a large cattle ranch in Montana. He also traveled the rodeo circuit as a bronco rider and cattle roper.

Mr. Jellison later served with the Army Air Corps as a demolition specialist and heavy equipment operator with an engineer-aviation battalion during World War II.

He returned to the Northwest after his military service and worked briefly at mines in the Silver Valley and then worked in the timber industry as a sawyer and tree faller.

Mr. Jellison then farmed near Palouse, Wash., for several years. He married Josephine Granberg in 1970 before settling in the Tensed, area.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Larry Jellison of Battle Ground, Wash., Jeffery Jellison of Helena, Dan Streeter of Beatty, Nev., David Streeter of Walla Walla and James Redfield of Auburn, Wash.; three daughters, Faith Harvey of Tensed, Lois Harvey of St. Maries and Nancy Montgomery of Potlatch, Idaho; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
