Kettle Falls Levy Slips Away From Approval

From Staff

The Reardan-Edwall School District padded a paper-thin levy victory when more absentee ballots were counted Friday in Lincoln and Spokane counties.

In Stevens County, though, absentees erased the Kettle Falls School District’s 65.8 percent levy victory in Tuesday’s election. The levy’s support slipped to 58.4 percent, 530-378.

The Kettle Falls levy could be lifted back above the 60 percent majority needed for passage when about 100 more ballots are counted Tuesday. However, three-fourths or more of the uncounted ballots would have to be in support.

In the Reardan-Edwall School District, which is about evenly split between Lincoln and Spokane counties, absentees lifted levy support from 60.4 percent on election night to 61.8 percent, 546-338. It appeared unlikely there would be enough additional ballots to change the result.
