Personal: Age 45. Lives on the road, has a Kerry blue terrier named Irish

Salary: Up to $100,000 a year.

Duties: Overseeing maintenance and repair of 1,600 costume pieces, including 230 costumes used in the musical each night. He runs a shop with seven permanent staff members and 14 local hires who sew and wash the costumes and dress the actors.

Challenges: “You have to create your own work room. How fast can you open up your boxes, put your tables out and have a shop?”

Frustrations: “The clothes march out on stage. Then they come back and get hung up. What happens in between, who knows?”

Work experience: Started traveling in 1980 with the “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” He headed wardrobe for a number of traveling shows, including “Annie,” “Evita,” “Cats.” Has been with Phantom since July 1992.

Perks: The job is fun and demanding. “Phantom by far has the best costume budget — $3 million. It’s opulent. It’s extremely showy.”

Why live on the road?: “It’s more attractive to me than life without money.”
