Addy Man Ordered To Repay Worker’S Comp

From Staff

An Eastern Washington man has been ordered to pay back more than $86,000 for workers’ compensation benefits he got illegally, state officials said Tuesday.

The Department of Labor and Industries said William O. Conklin of Addy, in Stevens County, worked as a dairy milker during a nearly two-year period during which he claimed he was disabled and could not work.

Conklin was paid $57,511 in workers’ compensation benefits from October 1997 to August 1999. Because state law allows for an additional 50 percent penalty, Conklin was ordered to repay $86,267.

Conklin was receiving workers’ compensation for an on-the-job accident that occurred while he was working at the Tacoma Steam plant.
