Spokane police identified William Moses Stanford, 47, as the man found dead across from Lewis and Clark High School early Monday.

Stanford, who lived in an apartment at 1603 S. Royal, was scheduled to appear in Spokane County District Court for an arrangement involving drug paraphernalia charges this week.

Police have not elaborated on the specific cause of death, calling it “abdominal trauma.” A police spokesman said it’s unclear whether Stanford died during an assault or from other causes.

A detective who spoke with Stanford’s father was told Stanford had college degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering.

A motorist parking under Interstate 90 near Fourth Avenue and Wall Street spotted Stanford’s body around 5:45 a.m. Monday and called police.

Anyone with information about Stanford is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
