Summary: Chiefs will try to wrap up the Western Hockey League West Division title tonight without captain Derek Schutz, who was suspended Thursday for at least one game stemming from a slashing incident that left Seattle’s Scott Kelman with an injured knee.
Schutz could serve a second game Saturday night, WHL vice president Rick Doerksen said, depending on Kelman’s playing status. If Kelman can go this weekend, Schutz is likely to get the green light for Saturday night’s regular-season finale in Tri-City.
By then, the Chiefs may be resting many of their veterans. Although they want to register 100 points in the standings - which they do with a weekend sweep - they can win the West with a win or tie tonight, or a Prince George loss, and go with youngsters Saturday night, if coach Mike Babcock wants to rest his veterans.
