49 Degrees is offering free skiing during the last week of the season April 3-9.
Also, the annual Hawaiian Daze Celebration is set for Saturday. Brace yourself for the “Slush Pond” competition, in which the young at heart race across a pond of slushy water. The Wendle Suzuki big-air contest also will take place Saturday with $2,000 in cash awards and prizes up for grabs.
Adult and youth passes for next season - good for skiing the rest of this year - remain on sale through May 5.
Mount Spokane is offering a special for school kids April 4-6. The cost is $66 for three days. Students will be picked up at three locations (South Hill, Valley, North Side). Price includes transportation, lift tickets and lunches. Info: 238-2220, extension 215. Big-air competition is Saturday. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
The season-pass promotion for next season runs until Aug. 31.
Schweitzer Mountain season passes for next year remain on sale through May 31.
Schweitzer Mountain Festival Cup Pro Am ski race, a yearly happening that benefits the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School and the Festival at Sandpoint, will be held today through Sunday.
Registration, ski clinics with the pros and a welcome reception will be held today. On Saturday, racers will run a preliminary race to determine placements on teams. Teams and pro captains will be announced and auctioned off at the City Forum in Sandpoint. The big race is Sunday with an apres ski party and awards in the afternoon.

Nordic skiing
Ski trails at the Boulder-Deer Creek Summit east of Curlew are being groomed today. Expect excellent conditions for skating and classic skiing.
The Spokane area cross country team qualified five for the National Junior Olympics.
Marshall Greene, 18, finished 13 in the sprints, 25th in the skate and 20th in the classic. Matt Halloran, 15, was eighth in the sprints, 21st in the skate and 16th in the classic.
Other team members included Meridith Hyslop, Lisa Erickson and Colin Quinn-Hurst.
