Two Wheel Transit Doubling Retail Site
Two Wheel Transit has outgrown its Carnegie Square store in Spokane and is expanding its operation next door, doubling its retail floor space.
Until December, the storefront to the east, where Two Wheel Transit will be expanding to in the next two weeks, had housed Carnegie Square Antiques, which is now closed.
Owner Steve Loveland said he has considered expanding his bike store at 1405 W. First for some time, but the addition of two new bicycle product lines - Schwinn and Cannondale - made it a necessity.
“We have 25 models not on display now because there is no room for them upstairs,” said Loveland, who added that he stores bicycles in additional styles and colors in the basement. Upstairs, the bikes are stored from the floor to the rafters, where library-style ladders are used to fetch them.
With the new space, Two Wheel Transit will expand from 1,500 square feet to 3,000 square feet of retail space. About 4,500 additional square feet of space will be used for the store’s repair shop, storage and Internet operations.
Two Wheel’s webmaster, Dave Buck, said the site will be fully operational within a month.
“We’re going to try to put some types of product up that aren’t being represented (on the Web),” said Buck, who added that Two Wheel Transit’s site will specialize in selling cycling videos (movies and sporting events) that can’t be found on other sites. Bicycles and bike accessories will also be marketed online.
Loveland said that he hopes the Internet site will eventually be a larger part of Two Wheel Transit’s business than its retail store.
