Fisherman Drowns After Boat Capsizes
A 23-year-old Kennewick man drowned Saturday while fishing in a boat across from Jerry’s Landing at Eloika Lake north of Spokane.
Deputies said the victim had just caught a fish and another man he was fishing with, also from Kennewick, bent over to wash his hands in the water when the boat capsized. Both men were standing up when the boat overturned, according to a Spokane County Sheriff’s report.
The surviving man was able to get to the one life jacket on the boat and was rescued by several people in another boat. The victim tried unsuccessfully to swim to shore in the 40-degree waters.
Sheriff’s deputies did not release the victim’s name because the next of kin had not been notified.
