Sandpoint’S Own Gets The Ax From Abc-TV
While O.J. golfs his life away, ex-LAPD Blue Mark Fuhrman continues to be dissed. “Good Morning America” hired him to serve as a consultant for coverage of Michael Skakel’s murder trial but rescinded the offer when ABC staffers squawked. Never mind that Fuhrman, of Sandpoint, fingered the Kennedy family brat in his book, “Who Killed Martha Moxley?” And he’s ap-hollow-gized for his O.J. testimony. He’s still pond scum for the likes of Alan Dershowitz, who told the Philadelphia Inquirer, “He should be in jail.” Yeah, the same law prof who defended Bill Clinton’s serial perjuries. Go figure.

Seinfeld’s wrong. Men won’t drop everything to see women fight. Ask Randy Price. He tried to stage a bout to raise money to send daughter Jennifer, 17, to the amateur boxing nationals. And lost $1,600. Everything went wrong. Someone forgot the scale. No North Idaho doctors would work the fight. And a Spokane doctor who did wore a body cast. Finally, Jennifer barely lost to a national medalist who was much heavier. Now, Randy can’t afford to send her to Midland, Texas. And he wonders if it’s worth the fight to live in a place that won’t support his daughter’s career. Anyone?
Say what, guvnah?
Every state has to upgrade its public TV network for digital broadcasting at the order of the federales, and Congress isn’t offering a dime to help. So isn’t this a huge unfunded mandate - the kind supposedly outlawed under our governor’s first bill as a then-U.S. senator? GQov. Dirk Kempthorne’s answer: not really - because states don’t have to do the upgrade work. They could choose, instead, not to have public television. Some choice.

That fund-raising letter from the “Coeur D. Alene” area campaign for George Dubya Bush said - what? “We MUST show Coeur D. Alene will be able to pull its weight financially, or our presidential team may have to write Idaho off to the Al Gore/Democrat column.” Republican Idaho goes Gore? C’mon … Tony Paquin’s Web site (votenet.com) shows some local high rollers have put $1,000 each into Dubya’s campaign: Jerry Jaeger for Hagadone Hospitality, state Sen. Jack Riggs, Kathy Sims, Dennis Wheeler and Mike Shulman.

Yes, Post Falls Mayor Gus Johnson opposed the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway refueling depot. Sort of. Johnson agreed to let railroad oh-ficials speak to his council after it had voted 3-1 against the plan. Then, he broke a 2-2 tie in favor of sending Kootenai County a letter that expressed concern - not opposition - to the project. That fence-sitting will serve Gus well if he’s elected county commissioner.
