Clark Fork Wampus Cats

Top returners: Boys - Eugene Heller, senior, sprints/jumps; Jacob Whitcraft, sr., middle distances. Girls - Brianna Montgomery, junior, middle distances/relays; Kristen Clegg, sophomore, jumps/relays; Ashley Ruen, jr., hurdles/relays.

Top newcomers: Boys - Allen Potter, freshman, middle distances. Girls - Sarah Anderson, frosh., sprints/relays.

Outlook: The Wampus Cats’ numbers are up, but just who will qualify for state remains to be seen. Clark Fork doesn’t have enough to contend for league titles.

Falls Christian Eagles

Coach: Ivan Benson

Top returners: Boys - Ben Danforth, sr., sprints/ relays; Russ Baker, jr., hurdles/high jump/relays; Jake Alger, sr., 400/relays; Scott Jackson, soph., sprints/jumps; Erich Frickle, sr., distances; Mike Anderson, sr., 800; Charlie Dowers, sr., relays. Girls - Stephanie Jenkins, sr., throws; Susanne Vogt, soph., throws; Dana Perry, soph., sprints; Amy Gulbrandsen, soph., sprints/relays.

Top newcomers: Boys - Doug Mathes, sr., distances; Erich Bishop, soph., distances; Mike Mitchell, sr., middle distances; John Mitchell, soph., middle distances. Girls - Jolene Janecek, soph., distances; Katie Shaw, soph., sprints.

Outlook: FCA’s boys will challenge Kootenai for the North Star League and district championships. Danforth leads a strong group of sprinters and should challenge for state titles. The girls lack experienced depth.

Kootenai Warriors

Coach: Shannon LaFountaine

Top returners: Boys - Michael Stevenson, soph., distances; Tom Reinhardt, soph., 400/long jump/shot. Girls - Katy Dooney, sr., sprints/high jump; Janelle Scheffelmaier, jr., throws; Tess Collins, soph., high jump/400; Tana Dooney, soph., distances/relays.

Top newcomers: Boys - Gus Gustin, frosh., 800/triple jump/discus; Greg Lundwall, jr., distances/high jump; Jonathan O’Dell, jr., throws; Eric Johnson, jr., throws; Phillip Hatch, soph., hurdles; Jake Dyer, soph., jumps. Girls - Brenda Stephenson, frosh., sprints/high jump; Leah Kincheloe, frosh., discus/sprints; Sarah Andersen, soph., 800/relays; Sarah Johns, frosh., sprints/ long jump; Lela White, frosh., hurdles.

Outlook: The Warriors boys and girls will be out to defend their district titles. Kootenai graduated some talented boys, so depth will be a question mark. The girls appear to be more than deep enough to make a run at the regional crown.

Mullan Tigers

Coach: Dave Rounds (Wallace)

Turnout: Boys - Jean Hegbloom, jr., throws/ sprints; Derek Stanley, soph., sprints/high jump; Tyler Carrico, soph., distances; Justin Winkler, jr., sprints. Girls - none.

Outlook: The Tigers practice with Wallace. Rounds figures to be able to use all four Tigers in a medley relay.
