Quartet Will Perform At Center

The Spokane String Quartet is performing a free concert at the East Central Community Center on Wednesday.

The concert is part of an ongoing effort by the quartet to bring the live experience to people who normally don’t attend the regular concert series at The Met.

The concert starts at 1 p.m.

The quartet performed earlier this month at the West Central Community Center.

The community center concerts are a key to interacting with children and seniors especially, said Linda Becker, Spokane Chamber music development director.

The quartet, made up of first and second violin, viola and cello, will set up close to the audience in an intimate environment. There will be time to answer questions between selections.

“When we played at East Central Community Center (in 1998), a lot of the children hadn’t seen good string instruments up close,” Becker said.

The quartet will play a broad range of selections from Schubert and pre-Mozart work by Hayden and likely will incorporate excerpts from Bach and Beethoven as tutorials to show the development of the music and style.

Depending on the music, requests may be taken from the audience, Becker said.

“Musicians like to respond to the audience interests and what they are curious about,” Becker said.

The community center concerts are sponsored by the Spokane Chamber Music Association and Foundation Northwest.
