Eric Everson Ferris Year: Senior Sport: Baseball Position: P/2B

Eric Everson says when his teammates play well, it makes him play well.

And he definitely has been on a tear recently. Everson pitched two complete-game wins in the past two weeks and takes a 2-1 record into today’s game against North Central. He has 21 hits in his last nine games.

“We’ve just been playing pretty well lately, and it’s easier to play well when the guys around you are playing well and supporting you,” said Everson, 17.

He began the week hitting a league-best .571 with 24 hits in 42 at-bats and is tied for the league lead in runs scored at 17 with teammate Craig King. On the mound, he has a 3.08 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Everson’s role for Ferris is a demanding one, said coach John Thacker.

“He’s doing two things. He pitches for us and plays second base,” Thacker said. “The last two to three weeks, he’s been hitting outstanding. He has sparked us at the plate. We’d been struggling, but he stimulated us to get it going a little bit.”

Everson doesn’t mind his multiple duties.

“It’s not that tough,” said Everson, who hopes to play baseball in college.

“(Coach) Thacker lets us know a couple days ahead of time, so I can focus on one thing.”
