Men Arrested After Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy led to a drug arrest.

Just before 10:30 p.m. April 29 the deputy stopped a blue Toyota truck at 1500 N. Park after watching the driver commit a traffic infraction.

The driver was identified as Justin N. Anest, 27, 211 E. Glass. A computer check confirmed that Anest’s driver’s licence was suspended, and he was placed under arrest for the offense.

A passenger in the vehicle, Mark V. Borunda, 52, also was checked, and the deputy found a misdemeanor arrest warrant against him. As Borunda was searched, deputies found a glass pipe and a baggie of what was suspected to be cocaine, said Spokane County sheriff’s Inspector David Wiyrick. Borunda was arrested on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

The vehicle was searched by the K-9 drug detection dog, Jake, and his handler. They found a syringe containing suspected methamphetamine.

Anest was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Attempt to elude leads to arrest

Spokane police arrested a young man who attempted to elude an officer and ran several stop signs before finally stopping at Addison and Olympic April 25.

The driver was identified as Alesky V. Lavrinenko, 20, who gave his address as 3023 E. 33rd. Officers said Lavrinenko was driving a car with one working headlight and sped away when a patrol car approached, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

When he was taken into custody, Lavrinenko was found to have a suspended driver’s license, no proof of insurance and two outstanding warrants, Cottam said. He was booked into jail on the warrants and on a charge of eluding an officer, a felony. The car was towed and impounded.

Counterfeit bill found at Zip Trip

Police recovered a counterfeit $20 bill from a convenience store April 24.

The clerk at a Zip Trip at 1503 E. Illinois said a man walked in about 10 p.m., wanted $3 worth of candy and handed him a $20 bill. The clerk said he told the man it was counterfeit and that he would have to keep the bill, Cottam said.

The man became nervous and ran from the store. He got into a blue two-door Toyota and left the area.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches, 200 pounds with black hair.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
