Buffett Hungry For Doughnuts

Singer Jimmy Buffett is adding doughnuts to his list of favorite junk foods.

The Palm Beach resident - and former Key Wester - who crooned about a “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” plans to open several Krispy Kreme franchises in Palm Beach County this year.

The closest Krispy Kreme, famous for its sugar-glazed doughnuts, is about 50 miles to the south in Fort Lauderdale.

“He really has a passion for our product,” said Stan Parker, a senior vice president for the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based company whose green-and-white logo with red, scripty double-Ks is a staple throughout the South.

Buffett already owns restaurants dubbed Margaritaville in Key West, Orlando, New Orleans, and Charleston, S.C. He also mentions Krispy Kremes in his 1999 tune “I Will Play for Gumbo.” He plans to change the name of his restaurant holding company to KreMaritta.
