Dunns Resign As B Tourney Directors
Clayton Dunn has resigned as State B basketball tournament coordinator.
Dunn has been involved with the B tournaments in several capacities for many years, serving as coordinator the last three years.
Dunn said his decision was greatly influenced by the resignation of girls tournament director Teresa Dunn.
Teresa Dunn won’t return as director because she has accepted a full-time teaching position for this fall.
Baseball
For the fourth consecutive year, the Spokane Indians will stage open auditions for people interested in performing the National Anthem at Indians games this summer at Avista Stadium.
Auditions will be Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. All musical acts are encouraged to take part. There is no age restriction. The Indians open their home season June 20.

Basketball
The Spokane Lakers, a team of 13- and 14-year-old boys, have qualified for the AAU national championships July 29-Aug. 6 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
The Lakers, coached by Jack Johnson, have an 11-1 record and earned their national spot by placing second in the regional championships.
The team: Jack Johnson III, Travis Bertholf, Kenny Zachow, Cedric Jackson, Carl Shaw, Nick Cantlon, Jered Hedl, Michael Williams, Casey Lust-Liggins and Bryce Currie. Mike Canton is the assistant coach.
Golf
The third annual Pacific Northwest AAU Junior Championships will be June 19 at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.
The event is open to boys and girls from 10-U through 19-U. Sept. 1, 2000, is date that determines the age, but players must be high school seniors or below. Deadline is June 7.

In-line hockey
The USARS Northwest Regional Championships in youth and adult divisions will be June 10-11 at Valley Sports Arena in Otis Orchards.
Divisions start at 8-and-under. Team fee is $350 for up to 10 players. Deadline is May 25. Players must have a current USARS card.
Top three finishers in each division qualify for the USARS nationals.

Soccer
The Spokane Soccer Club Falcons will have tryouts for U-13 premier teams and all select teams for boys and girls the next two weeks from 6-8 p.m. at North Pines Junior High.
U-13 premier girls will try out Monday and Thursday, boys Tuesday and Friday.
Tryouts for U-13 and U-14 boys and U-15 girls will be May 16 and for U-13 and U-14 girls and U-15 boys May 17.

Softball
A clinic for girls fastpitch players ages 10-15 will be conducted May 21 in two sessions at Hart Field (37th and Grand).
One session will be from 9 a.m.-noon, the other from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $15. Hitting, throwing, defense and baserunning/sliding skills will be among the subjects covered.

Tennis
Zorana Roganovic from Novisad, Yugoslavia, has signed a national letter of intent with the Washington State women’s team, coach Cari Groce announced.
Roganovic is ranked second nationally in the Yugoslavia junior division. Her tournament titles in 1999 included the Yugoslavia National Tournament, Germany’s Winkler Tournament and Bulgaria’s Olimpiski Nada.
Track and field
Inland Northwest Track & Field, which provides track and cross country championships for all ages, announced its summer schedule that includes competitions each weekend from early June into early July.

Volleyball
Adrianne Edmonds, a two-year standout at Community Colleges of Spokane, has signed a letter of intent with the University of Memphis.
Edmonds, an outside hitter, was the NWAACC’s defensive player of the week once and East Region defensive player of the week three times en route to being a first-team All-Eastern Region selection.
The North Idaho Volleyball Club’s U-15 team pulled off a major upset by winning its second straight U.S. National Junior Olympic qualifier last weekend in Sacramento, Calif.
The team, based in Sandpoint, was seeded 13th and opened the tourney by upsetting top-seeded Long Beach (Calif.) 25-14, 25-21. NIVBC beat Central Cal of Fresno, Calif., 25-13, 25-22 in the semifinals. In the finals, NIVBC downed Nevada Juniors of Las Vegas 25-22, 25-17.
Members are Beth Lane, Callie Weiden, Dana Ryberg, Amy Dyck, Katie Brown, Allison Sletager, Kelsey Kinzer, Kara Verby, Katie Rogers and Devon Natoni.
NIVBC had earlier secured a berth to nationals when it won a qualifier in Spokane in early April. The win at Sacramento would secure NIVBC a higher seed at nationals, July 1-4 in Louisville, Ky.
Wrestling
Jim Nielson and Jamie Wise, both of Moses Lake, won veterans division titles at the National Championships last month in Las Vegas.
Wise, a three-time state champion at Moses Lake 20 years ago, won the 152-pound weight class and Nielson, a former two-time state champion for the Chiefs of the same vintage, was champion at 286 pounds.
Miscellany
Gonzaga University’s athletic department has undergone some reorganization within the support staff.
Athletic director Mike Roth announced that senior women’s administrator/compliance director Melissa Freigang left to accept the position of associate athletic director/senior women’s administrator at Weber State.
Heather Gores, an assistant women’s basketball coach the past six years, will become senior women’s administrator with some compliance responsibilities. Shannon Stanford, a graduate assistant under Freigang, has been promoted to a full-time position and will have compliance and eligibility responsibilities.
Doreen Evans, a 1997 graduate of Washington State, was named an assistant championships director of the Pacific-10 Conference.
Evans, a four-year letterwinner in basketball at WSU, serving as captain her last two seasons, was an administrative fellow in the Pac-10 office the last two years. She dealt with championship administration and the administration of sports programs.
