Next week, the U.S. Forest Service expects to publish a draft environmental impact statement for protecting more than 40 million acres of roadless areas across the nation.

Public comment on the proposals will be gathered before a final proposal is formed.

Several versions of the proposals are available, including a 12-page summary, a 400-page document set with appendices and maps as well as CD versions of the documents.

Copies are available at Forest Service offices and libraries or by writing to Rocky Mountain Research Station, Publications Distribution, 240 W. Prospect Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526-2098. Fax orders at (800) 777-5805. specify summary, full DEIS or CD versions.
