Wendell Hinchliff Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Wendell Ray Hinchliff, 78, will be today at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church in Valley, Wash. Burial will be at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery in Jump Off Joe, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hinchliff, who was born in Killam, Alberta, died Thursday.

His family moved to Post Falls when he was two years old and began farming.

Mr. Hinchliff served with the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was discharged in 1945. He married Rose Mary Winey that year and they moved to Post Falls.

Mr. Hinchliff worked at the Ohio Match Co. in Huetter, Idaho, until 1957. He then purchased a dairy farm and moved his family to Valley. He also worked for many years at the Tomshaw Sawmill in Valley. He retired from Plum Creek Sawmill in Arden, Wash., where he was a head scaler.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill Hinchliff of Spokane and Jim Hinchliff of Deer Park; four daughters, Lora Biondi of Spokane, Joan Dudney of Coeur d’Alene, Barbara Hinchliff of Ellensburg and Marie Schneider of Chewelah; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah.

Archie `Bill’ Makinster Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Archie W. “Bill” Makinster, 81, will be today and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Makinster, who was born in South Dakota, died Thursday.

He graduated from high school in Lidgerwood, N.D., in 1937 and married Myra Coles in 1939.

Mr. Makinster attended Billings Poly Technical Institute in Montana from 1937 to 1939 and worked for Armour and Co. until 1944, when he served with the Army during World War II.

He returned to Montana and worked as an administrative manager at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in St. Ignatius, Mont., until retiring and moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1974.

He was a member of St. Pius Roman Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene and the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Myra; two sons, Bill Makinster of Tulsa, Okla., and Ron Makinster of Portland; two daughters, Terri Sande of Coeur d’Alene and Barbara Fatzinger of Kamiah, Idaho; a sister, Rosamond Sears of Canada; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Frances Sjoden Clark Fork, Idaho

Service for Frances Leona Sjoden, 87, will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Clark Fork United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Clark Fork Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sjoden, who was born in Clark Fork, died Friday.

She married Victor “Ferd” Sjoden in 1932, and the couple lived in the Clark Fork area before moving to Santa Rosa, Calif., in 1962.

She was a homemaker.

In 1977 she moved back to Clark Fork and was involved as a community volunteer for numerous causes and organizations.

Mrs. Sjoden was a member of Clark Fork United Methodist Church and the Clark Fork Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include four children, Duane Sjoden and Vicki Bennett, both of Clark Fork, and Lanny Sjoden and Linda Chicon, both of Santa Rosa; nine grandchildren, David, Victor, Chris, Tim, Todd, Ty, Brad, Jennifer and Stephanie; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Clark Fork Grange.

Lillian Wallace Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Lillian R. Wallace, 83, at her request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wallace, who was born in Victoria, British Columbia, died Thursday.

She attended Ballard High School in Seattle, and married James Wallace in 1948.

She had worked as a waitress and cook for 50 years at numerous restaurants until retiring and moving to Yuma, Ariz.

Mrs. Wallace moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1997, but spent winters in Arizona.

She was an avid gardener.

Survivors include her husband, James; a daughter, Wendy Freer of Salt Lake City; a brother, Andy Shearer of Yuma; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Gracie Stapleton Spokane

Memorial service for Gracie Mae Stapleton, 87, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stapleton, who was born in Valier, Mont., died April 27.

Her family moved to Spokane when she was very young. She attended schools in Spokane, Deep Creek, and Ford, Wash., and graduated from high school in Wellpinit, Wash.

Mrs. Stapleton worked as a machine operator at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in Camas, Wash., until she retired in 1975.

She moved back to Spokane in 1992.

She is survived by a sister, Sarah Wynecoop of Spokane; and several nieces and nephews.
