Speeding Driver Booked On Two Drug Charges

A man was arrested for possession of drugs Saturday after a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy stopped him for speeding.

The driver was pulled over in his 1987 Camaro two-door when a deputy clocked him at “well over” the 40 mph speed limit on Sunset Blvd. near Royal Street, said Sheriff’s Cpl. Dave Reagan.

The deputy arrested the man after he discovered the Toppenish, Wash., man had an outstanding Adams County warrant for possession of cocaine and heroin, Reagan said.

The man’s troubles worsened after another deputy with a drug dog searched his car and found what Reagan called a drug kit.

The dog sniffed out a small black leather bag that contained a burned glass pipe dusted with a white powder. Testing revealed that the powder was cocaine, Reagan said.

The bag also contained burned filters, 20 syringes and rubber straps.

Michael Wayne Nelson, 37, was booked into jail on the warrant and possession of cocaine.
