Gerald MacFarlane, 51, has been named chief operating officer and president of Webiness, a Spokane-based Web hosting and Internet marketing and development company.

MacFarlane, who has had extensive experience in the technology and medical industries, most recently worked as facilities vice president for Alcatel’s Packet Engines office in Spokane.

He also has 19 years of experience working as a lead engineer for the Sylvania and GTE corporations.

Webiness was started last year by Spokane entrepreneur Bernard Daines. Daines is the founder and chairman of the private company’s board of directors.

The company has 27 employees, working from a new office at 23403 E. Mission in Liberty Lake.

MacFarlane said he plans to make Webiness a global company “and a significant contributor within the local Internet community.” Another goal is to expand staff to 100 workers within a year.
