Mom’S Message From Jail

Kyleigh Tatem, left, sits with her grandmother Brenda Hewitt Tuesday evening in Hewitt’s living room in Virginia Beach, Va., watching her mother, Donna Tatem read a poem written for her daughter. The message was videotaped at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women. Tatem, an inmate at Fluvanna, was among 180 imprisoned moms who recorded free Mother’s Day messages for their children, thanks to Norfolk video producer Carolyn LeCroy and her prison organization, Women in Transition.
