Foregone Conclusion

Idaho’s late primary election makes the presidential race a mere beauty contest in the Gem State.

It’s a foregone conclusion that George W. Bush will snare the Republican party nomination, just as vice president Al Gore is assured the Democratic Party nomination.

Regardless, voters also will see Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr., on the ballot as a Democratic presidential candidate. Alan Keyes is on the ballot as a Republican candidate.

Keyes, who spoke at a standing-room-only rally at North Idaho College a week ago, is the only candidate who made a campaign stop in the Panhandle. Keyes urgently needs something from Idaho voters - 20 percent of Tuesday’s votes, in order to capture delegates and federal matching funds necessary to stay in the race.

“It looks rather bleak if we don’t get those votes,” said David Hill, Keyes’ North Idaho campaign organizer. “His campaign is pretty much on the line in Idaho.”
