Delivery From Stork A Two-For-One Deal

Kerri Thoreson Special To Handl

Grandmothers Colleen English and Sandy Johnson had a very special Mother’s Day celebration this year with the May 12 birth of twin grandsons, Blake and Luke. The babies’ grandfathers, Bruce English and Gus Johnson, are bursting their buttons, too. Proud parents Eric and Wendy English are on cloud nine with their two-fer delivery from the stork, while big brother Nathaniel is reserving comment until he figures out if the twins are going to gang up on him.

Summer Day (could there be a more perfect name on days like these?) will graduate from Post Falls High School in June. This week she was announced as one of only 500 high school seniors nationwide who earned a $4,000 scholarship from the Elks National Foundation. To be selected from tens of thousands of applicants is quite an honor. Summer will put the scholarship money to good use when she heads off to Cornell University where she’ll study in the pre-med program.

New grandfather and Post Falls Mayor Gus Johnson has achieved perfect attendance at City Council meetings for more than six years. Now that’s a record to be proud of!

Randy Wells has established a reputation throughout the state and region as a talented auctioneer who also is a tireless volunteer for numerous organizations in their fund-raising quests. He and his wife, Annette, deserve extra kudos for donating their auction acumen to the Windermere Foundation fund-raiser for the homeless over the weekend.

The auction was held in Everett on Friday night, which is the same night the Wells’ business conducts its own weekly auction. So not only did Randy and Annette donate their time to do an auction in western Washington, they hired an auctioneer to fill in at their auction house in their absence.

Speaking of the Windermere Foundation, Loretta Reed popped into the office the other day with an order form for the fifth annual Box Lunch fund-raiser. I’ve treated the staff to lunch through the program for the past few years and can give a sincere testimonial to the great lunches they’ll deliver on Wednesday. I bet if you called Loretta at 664-9221, she’ll fix you up!

The Post Falls Rotary Club is spearheading the Rotary Gardens addition to our new library, and it looks beautiful. If you happen to visit the library or go by when the volunteers are out working, stop and tell them thanks.

I’m continually amazed at the many hours of time some of the busiest people in town always seem to find to do wonderful things for this community.

Get-well wishes to Post Falls Park and Recreation director Bill Musson. He’s too good of a guy to be down for long. Besides, he’s put so much time in planning the upcoming Post Falls Festival Days celebration to miss the fun.

Tuesday is election day in Idaho. Let’s all be good citizens and show respect to all of those people who’ve worked hard on their campaigns in the past months by getting out to vote. There are important seats to be filled and important issues to be decided.
