Volunteer efforts appreciated
I would like to thank the volunteers and contractors for their help in creating the Tubbs Hill Eastside Park. This new park and trail entrance at 10th Street has been a long effort of the Tubbs Hill Foundation in coordination with the Coeur d’Alene Parks Department. This site used to be the Coeur d’Alene Water Department. We have removed two warehouses and a house at this waterfront site to create open green space and views of the lake.
Our recent work party volunteers, and Ken Roberge and his crew and equipment from Specialty Tree Service helped remove many non-native trees at the shoreline and the slopes on Tubbs Hill. This opened up a view of the lake and the East side of Tubbs Hill. The Kiwanis Club volunteers and the Coeur d’Alene Parks Department helped define this park area with the installation of bollard posts.
Through these volunteers and other Friends of Tubbs Hill we have reclaimed this warehouse site into a new waterfront park. Thank you for your efforts and donations. Brian Stevens President, Tubbs Hill Foundation, Coeur d’Alene
Story on Rathdrum mayor says it all
The Handle Extra article on Rathdrum Mayor Tawnda Bromley was an excellent story. As someone who has known Tawnda for many years, I can say you hit the nail on the head. Tawnda has given so much to Rathdrum. I have worked with her in several capacities over the years and can honestly say she truly cares about Rathdrum and its future. The citizens of Rathdrum should be very proud of their mayor and the things she is doing for their city. Beverly Young Rathdrum
Do something to stop deaths on Highway 95
How many people have to die before U.S. Highway 95 is widened to four lanes all the way from Sandpoint to Moscow? I doubt anything will be done for years. So why not put concrete dividers down the center line to prevent any more head-on collisions? Maybe that would reduce the number of deaths at least until lives become more important than money. Fire station bond proposal excellent plan
Re: Proposal for a $2 million bond to build two new fire stations in Post Falls. Is it a good idea? More than that, it is an excellent plan and represents thinking that is attempting to keep up with growth in a timely manner instead of reacting to it after the fact. The land generously donated for this purpose certainly helps, too! Jack Hall Post Falls
New developments taxing fire district
Re: Proposed Fire District bond to build new fire stations. The Post Falls Fire District covers more than the city of Post Falls, and everybody in the Post Falls Fire District is being asked to put out money for poor planning by the city of Post Falls when it approved all of the new developments.
We no longer can pay the expense of developers getting rich and leaving us with the bill for fire, police and schools. Vote no and maybe the next time a developer wants to put in a housing addition the city of Post Falls will tell them we need a fire station first. Robert Gibson Post Falls
Run for commissioner questioned
Stand by for more smoke and mirrors from the political machine run by none other than Post Falls City Administrator James Hammond. Mayor Gus Johnson, under the direction and advice of Hammond, has now stated that he will run for county commissioner, and he can solve the jail problem and balance the county budget.
Give us a break. What is your experience other than Post Falls with Hammond leading you in the direction he advises? Why else did he appoint you to follow him as mayor? What was your college major, if you went to college? The figures you have suggested to solve the financing of the jail are not only unrealistic but impossible under your submission.
Re: Commissioner Ron Rankin’s rebuttal to your allegations, while you have been mayor the Post Falls Police Department has acquired more police personnel and police cars than the city of Coeur d’Alene. Why?
Also why, under your watch, do new roads for resort owners become priorities, but only for a quarter of a mile, then terminate to the old street? Benefit the special interest again. Honest people can’t be bought. Dishonest people can.
