Poor Judgment Can Be Resolved, Repaired

Robert Root Special To Handle Ex

During the Spirit Lake city fracas it has become apparent that poor judgment has been involved but this can be repaired and resolved. At the meetings the accusations often were unfounded while the shouts of anger were what you would expect in any mob.

Fortunately, a calm and knowledgeable speaker appeared on the scene knowingly describing what and how our streets can be repaired at a reasonable cost. We were the audience of Jim Brown, an ex-Spirit Lake mayor who has spent much of his life in the construction business. He spoke positively and concisely on the crux of the problem. Most of the rest of the haggling and shouts there were hot air. Unfounded accusations were heaped upon the administration.

We are reminded of the city governments of old and their behavior that was sterling. Their never-wavering devotion to the care of the city’s funds were paramount. Never once would they consider using city funds for private matters or allow themselves being observed in the act.

Even then engineers were dealt with using the greatest of caution and care, realizing that their most cunning capability was relieving us of our funds. It would have been considered foolish to keep their company just to look good.

Now it is possible for us to continue on, and when I polled our wise and cool-headed citizens all said the recall was a bad choice. In almost every case they warned against a much more power-hungry force that waits in the background.
