‘Battlefield Earth’ Lacking In All Aspects

Summer has been known to bring out the worst in movies, but nothing falls as low as the overdone borefest “Battlefield Earth.”

The film, which lacks everything from originality to good acting to an ounce of excitement, might go down as the biggest failure ever to hit the screen.

John Travolta plays an alien who enslaves the last remaining humans. Much of the film involves bickering between Travolta and other aliens. The dialogue is not only poorly written, but boring and ridiculous. The heroes, the enslaved humans of the film, are hardly on the screen, and all look and act the same. Their characters are never developed enough to make the audience care about them.

Perhaps the worst part about “Battlefield Earth” is the fact that the supposedly exciting moments are not exciting. All scenes are shot in slow motion or jump around so many times that it is difficult to tell if anything or nothing is happening.

The climax, which is especially bad, hits with one, single comment.

Travolta does his best, but “Battlefield Earth” has nothing going for it to rise above its future comparisons to the movie “Street Fighter.”
