Office supplier Smith Corona, once one of America’s leading makers of typewriters, filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday and agreed to sell its assets to Carolina Wholesale Office Machine Co. for about $6 million.

Herbalife International Inc. named chief operating officer Christopher Pair as acting chief executive of the nutritional and diet products company following the death over the weekend of founder Mark Hughes. Hughes, 44, was found dead Sunday. He is believed to have died of natural causes.
