Seniors Ready To Light World On Fire
In many ways, life can be compared to a fire: unpredictable, changeable and sometimes uncontrollable.
Once in a while, in this “fire of life,” sparks can jump out and create new fires. On some occasions, these fires turn out to be larger than the initial flames.
Sometimes the fire made from those sparks died out, but the mark on the face of the earth is still left behind, where all who pass by can see it. Sometimes a spark creates an inferno so immense that it has the ability to change the entire world!
Such a spark shines in the heart of each graduate at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. These sparks jump from the fire that is the academy itself. The students here are kindled to create new fires in the world that will be difficult to extinguish and will leave a mark on society not soon to be forgotten. Not only in the classrooms or in the chapel are these sparks forged, but in the entire environment that surrounds the academy. For the memories that these students will see when they look back upon their high school careers will go far beyond the standard flames of recollection. When the graduating Class of 2000 looks back and lights the candle of thought to view those moments long passed, they will see much deeper into the fire to the very heart of the flame.
Just for example, there are no memories that could surpass the ones of sitting in the boarding house with friends, drinking coffee and partaking in deep philosophical discussion about life, love and social interactions. And the roar in the fireplace could not even hold a candle to the roar of the crowd at the basketball game when the St. Michael’s Warriors made it to the 1999-2000 Panorama League championships. Then there was the time when the senior art class went downtown for a look at an art museum, only to find that it was closed, resulting in them sitting by the river feeding the ducks, befriending a Vietnam amputee.
These times and others spent at St. Michael’s Academy have more meaning than any poet could explain, and unfortunately no newspaper article could show half of the beauty that exists in the memories of this graduating class. As these memories implant themselves deep into the archives of the student’s minds when they leave this school, they will be compelled only to compare and shoot much higher. When they receive those diplomas and walk through over the threshold of those double doors of the academy, they will be leaving with the knowledge that there is much more out there in life than that which they see in front of them, and they will restlessly strive to attain it.
So be prepared, society, for you are about to behold the graduating class of St. Michael’s Catholic Academy of the year 2000, and they are ready to start a fire!
