At A Glance: Memorial Day Events
Several Memorial Day ceremonies are planned Monday:
Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall: The Knights of Columbus will host a Memorial Day Mass at 10 a.m. Primary celebrant is Bishop William Skylstad. Music will be provided by St. Thomas More Choir.
St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 17825 E. Trent: A Memorial Day Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Main celebrant will be the Rev. James Mangan.
Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 E. Wellesley: At 11:30 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff Mark Sterk will be the featured speaker during services conducted by the Spokane Detachment, Marine Corps League at the Iwo Jima Memorial.
Spokane Memorial Gardens, 5909 S. Cheney-Spokane Road: At 10 a.m. Spokane Mayor John Talbot will be the keynote speaker.
Pines Cemetery, 1402 S. Pines Road: At noon a special Memorial Day service will be conducted by VFW Post 1435 at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home’s Veteran’s Memorial.
Greenwood and Riverside Memorial Parks, 211 N. Government Way: More than 900 flags will be flown in memory of those veterans interred in Greenwood and Riverside Memorial parks.
Memorial Rock at City Hall, 316 E. Crawford, Deer Park: Deer Park VFW Post 3067 will conduct services at 1 p.m.
In Idaho: Sunday:
The Melody Lane Singers will perform on the front lawn at the Coeur d’Alene Resort from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The patriotic group has 60 performers ranging in age from 6 to 18.
Monday:
In Coeur d’Alene, a memorial service for those lost at sea will begin at 9:15 a.m. Monday at the city’s Third Street boat dock.
Afterward, a ceremony is planned at St. Thomas Cemetery, on East Sherman Ave., at 10 a.m. Both services are organized by Coeur d’Alene VFW Post 889.
Coeur d’Alene Forest Cemetery, 221 S. Fifth, plans a service at 11 a.m.
In Post Falls, an 11 a.m. service is planned by American Legion Post 143 at Evergreen Cemetery on Spokane Street. Kootenai County prosecutor Bill Douglas is the scheduled speaker.
In Rathdrum, VFW Post 9894 also will have an 11 a.m. service, at Pine Grove Cemetery on state Highway 53.
American Legion members in Athol will host a noon ceremony at their post on state Highway 54. Also participating are the Sons of the Legion and the Legion Auxiliary.
In the Silver Valley, VFW Post 1675 and its auxiliary plan Memorial Day services at 9:30 a.m. Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg.
Services at Days Cemetery in Osburn begin at 10 a.m., followed by Silverwood Convalescent Home at 10:30 a.m.
At the Mullan Cemetery, services begin at 11:15 a.m., followed by a noon service at Nine Mile Cemetery.
Services at the Murray Cemetery begin at 1 p.m., followed by refreshments at the VFW Hall in Osburn at 2:15 p.m.
