Deputy Assaulted In Traffic Stop

A Valley man was pepper sprayed Wednesday morning after allegedly kicking a sheriff’s deputy in the face.

The deputy had stopped on Sprague Avenue near Pines Road at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday after he noticed a white Honda Prelude partially blocking the inside travel lane.

The driver of the Honda became verbally abusive with the deputy when asked why the car was stopped in the roadway. The man moved over to the passenger’s seat, and when the deputy looked inside, kicked him in the mouth with a bare foot, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The deputy pepper sprayed the man and then he and another deputy handcuffed the man, who allegedly continued to resist arrest. Deputies arrested Josh T. Bodey, 27, 811 N. Ormond Court, for felony assault on a police officer.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect may have been under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the incident.

Neither the deputy nor the suspect was injured.
