Firebirds Edge Shadow With Late Goal

Freddy Kummernes scored twice during regulation and set up the winning goal in overtime, leading Willamette Valley to a 4-3 win over the Spokane Shadow in United Soccer League play on Friday night.

Kummernes assisted on J.P.

Capadanno’s overtime goal in the 95th minute.

The Firebirds won their first Northwest Division match in four attempts. Spokane (0-1-2) is looking for its first win, heading into today’s match at Yakima.

Zane Higgins of the Shadow had one goal and one assist in the first half. Abbas Faridnia assisted on two of Spokane’s goals. Filomon Afenegus, who drew his first start, opened Spokane’s scoring at 22 minutes.

The Shadow missed penalty kicks at 22 and 63 minutes.
