Worship Services Mark Memorial Day

The Spokane Valley will be the site of two worship celebrations on Monday to observe Memorial Day and remember those who have died. There will be a Mass said by the Rev. James Mangan at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery, 17825 E. Trent. People are asked to bring their own chairs. Refreshments will be served after Mass.

If it is raining, the Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4521 N. Arden Road.

Christ Lutheran Church will host a prayer vigil from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday. There will be open prayer time from 4 to 7 p.m. and all are invited to stop by and pray in the sanctuary for any length of time. People wishing to sign up for a 30 minute block of time may call the church office at 266-0773 to sign up.

Full schedule at Valley Nazarene

The Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene will feature trumpeter Rudy Cervantes in concert during a special combined worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Cervantes formed Heavenly Trumpet Ministries in 1988 and has traveled the country performing since then.

Sunday also marks the beginning of the church’s summer worship schedule. The church will feature one service at 10:45 a.m. each Sunday through Labor Day.

The church is planning a barbecue Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be sizzling on the grill, and chips, salad, drinks and ice cream will also be available. The cost will vary depending on items selected. Proceeds from the event will benefit the church’s children’s program.

Orchestra and choirs in concert

The West Valley High School strings orchestra will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye. Zion’s Chancel Choir will also perform, along with members of the St. John Vianney Church choir. Refreshments will be served following the performance.

Summer worship schedule

Opportunity Presbyterian Church is beginning its summer worship schedule on Sunday. One service will be offered at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.
