Alcoa has named George Bergeron the president and chief executive officer of Reynolds Metals Co. following Alcoa’s merger with the Richmond, Va.-based aluminum maker.

International Lease Finance Corp. has ordered 50 Next-Generation 737 aircraft from The Boeing Co. in a deal worth about $2.5 billion.

Gateway Inc. has chosen upstart chipmaker Transmeta to power two new devices for Internet access, dealing a blow to the combined rule of Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. in personal computing. The San Diego, Calif.-based computer manufacturer also said it will use a version of the Linux operating system developed by Transmeta in the devices, the first of which should be on sale this holiday season. Gateway is teaming up with America Online Inc. to develop the “Internet appliances.”

Bausch & Lomb Inc. has abandoned its pursuit of Wesley Jessen VisionCare Inc. the cosmetic contact lens maker revealed it had accepted a $785 million buyout offer from CIBA Vision.
