Adams County Washtucna

Washtucna High School’s annual alumni banquet brought back graduates dating back to the Class of 1920 and helped raise money for a school scholarship fund. Six students are graduating this year.

Grant County Coulee City

John Carruth and Ken Loper were the big winners of the fifth annual Big Wally’s Spring Walleye Classic at Banks Lake with a total weight of 34.8 pounds.

Lincoln County Davenport

Citizens have until early August to comment on whether the local stockyards can add two more sales days per week.

Pend Oreille County Newport

The Newport Ranger District needs volunteers to be Bead Lake boat launch hosts this summer. Hosts serve 30 days at a minimum through Oct. 15. For information, call (509) 447-7300.

Spokane County Cheney

Eastern Washington University’s spring commencement is June 10 at Woodward Field, with Gov. Gary Locke presenting the main commencement address.

Stevens County Springdale

Theresa Moore, Mary Walker Elementary/Middle School’s parent liaison, was recently given the Governor’s Recognition Award for a community-school event called “Family Night Out.” She also was honored as the Washington Drug Free Youth’s chapter adviser of the year. Moore piloted the Family Night Out program - a monthly dinner and activity event.

Whitman County Pullman

Washington State University’s Women’s Resource Center and Museum of Art have both received $1,000 grants from the Pullman Community Foundation. The Women’s Resource Center will use the grant for a program that focuses on improving quality of life for low-income single-parent students and their children. The museum will present two art workshops this fall to underserved school children in the Palouse.

Benewah County St. Maries

A local chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill support group was recently formed. The next meeting is June 13. For more information, call (208) 245-9090.

Bonner County Sandpoint

All area grade schools, and even home-schoolers, participate in the 5th Grade Music Outreach Program, an extension of the Festival at Sandpoint. More than 1,800 free “Mostly Mozart” concert tickets are given to the students. Boundary County Bonners Ferry Dirk Bortz, a senior discus thrower, and Forest Braden, a sophomore 1,600-meter runner at Bonners Ferry High School, placed first at the state A-2 track meet at Bronco Stadium in Boise.

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

Two local chain saw artists will be turning ponderosa pine stumps in the Coeur d’Alene Park into an eagle, a bear and a family of raccoons. For details, call (208) 769-2266.

Latah County Moscow

Five homes have been selected for the Prichard Art Gallery Home Tour on Saturday. The homes vary from galvanized steel siding and an indoor exercise pool to a 1920s home filled with a student art collection.

Shoshone County Pinehurst

The Pinehurst Days celebration is June 9-11. Activities include a craft fair, a spaghetti dinner, several skateboarding competitions, a pancake breakfast, a golf scramble and a classic car show.

The Heritage Museum will open for the season Saturday with a display of local paintings in the Tower Gallery.
