Champs Sweep Volleyball Awards

University of Arizona-bound Rochelle Ruen was named player of the year in Border League volleyball.

Coaches announced their all-league team Tuesday.

Ruen, who led Sandpoint to a second straight state title last weekend, split time at setter and hitter this fall. The player she split time with, freshman Amy Dyck, was named newcomer of the year.

Sandpoint coach Jeff Hurst was named coach of the year. Sandpoint defensive specialist Keeley Kinzer made the individual honors a clean sweep for the Bulldogs as she was named defensive player of the year.

Six players were named to the first team. They are: Lorin Griffits of Coeur d’Alene, Kelly Brannan of Cheney, Janet Bach of Colville, Rachel Mogen of Lake City, Emily Bennett of Moscow and Aubree Johnson of Post Falls.

Soccer

Sandpoint’s boys swept All-North Idaho League honors.

Bulldogs senior Jake Rosholt was named the most valuable player; senior Jake Bachman was named most valuable attacker; and senior Ryan Mahler was named most valuable defender.

Sandpoint coach Randy Thoreson was named coach of the year.

The Bulldogs, who captured a state title last weekend, had six other players named to the first team. They are defenders Chase Mikkelsen, Jared McCrum and Luke Henry, midfielders Charlie Kingsland and Justin Roche and goalie Brent Carter.

Joining those players on the first team are defender Brian Longwell, goaltender Dylan Hill and forward Anthony Facciano of Lake City; midfielder Luke Ordway and forward Ian Liebrandt of Moscow; midfielders Cole Schwerin and Danny Vredendburg, sweeper Ben Christen and defender Ryan Tulloch of Coeur d’Alene; and defender Adam White of Lewiston.

The girls All-Border League team also was selected.

Kaitlin Mitchell of Lake City and Jamison Link of Coeur d’Alene shared most valuable player honors.

Chelsea Zenner of Moscow was named offensive player of the year, and Bria Hotchkiss of Cheney and Megan Holmes of LC were named defensive players of the year. Carrie Keller of Lewiston was named the top goalie.

CdA’s first-year coach, Dixie Wachter, is coach of the year.

Named to the first team were Amanda Cravens, Jillian Sturm and Jenna Gann of Sandpoint; Emily Squires of Cheney; Kai Sharbono and Raeanne Capaul of Coeur d’Alene; Chase Sbicca and Katie Quinn of Lake City; Katie Burns of Clarkston; Katie Ridenour of Post Falls; Deyna Tripp of Colville; and Elise Booth of Moscow.
