Riddance Never Felt So Good

D.F. Oliveria The Spokesman-Re

I was in a quandary Saturday morning. Should I walk my dog? Or see Richard Butler and Co. goosestep up Sherman Avenue for one last time? After all, I was entertained last year when a group of protesters staged an impromptu street sit-in, forcing Butler and his 18 disciples to turn down a side street. But I accidentally mentioned the W-word (walk) in my dog’s hearing and he got hyper. Ultimately, I took the dog out and missed seeing the only thing on Sherman worth seeing Saturday: the two street sweepers tailing the Aryans. Now, how did Police Chief Tom Cronin put it? “It was a symbolic move. We swept them out of town.” A fitting epitaph.

Vacant lots don’t endorse political wannabes

If I were king, we’d count the political signs illegally placed in public rights of way - and lock up the violators … Indeed, the RepUGLYcans do owe this nation an ap-hollow-gy for Slick Willie’s impeachment - at least, those in the U.S. Senate do. You know, the yellow bellies who didn’t finish the job … What’s the difference between the Gonzaga Bulldog basketball team and Al Gore? Al Gore has never committed a turnover. Or at least one he’d admit … If you think there’s no difference between the two major presidential candidates, go to the blackboard and write 100 times: “I’m politically ignorant” … French Fries (or, “What You Should Do If You’re Still Undecided”): 1, Blindly follow S-R endorsements; 2, Stay home; 3, Play eenie, meenie; 4, Be ashamed; and 5, Be very ashamed.

I’m sorry, so sorry; now please don’t kill me

Hot Potatoes’ definition of an ap-hollow-gy: Robert Lee Yates Jr. telling the families of his 13 (and counting) victims that “I am sorry” … On the other hand, Yates could be right. He is a sorry excuse for a human … Fuhgeddabout Election Day. As long as Lou Piniella’s coming back to the Mariners, this Potatohead can’t stop thinking about tomorrow … Does anyone actually read letters to the editor endorsing political candidates? … Quotable Quote: “A cancer doesn’t go away if you just ignore it” - Wallace Keith, a Spokane social worker who has protested against racism at all three marches staged by the Group Formerly Known As Aryan Nations … P.S.: KVNI-AM (1080) Dick Haugen and Yours Truly will discuss North Idaho political races at 9 this morning … Today’s edition of Hot Potatoes was brought to you by the No. 2 of 3. Or, the number of male Idaho Potatoheads who are overweight. Or, hey, I resemble that.
