No Charges Against Mayor

Springdale Mayor Dan Hite won’t be charged with assaulting the town’s former marshal, Brenda Blackmer, in a scuffle over a pencil holder.

Stevens County Prosecutor Jerry Wetle ruled this week that there is insufficient evidence to prosecute Hite over the sprained finger Blackmer said she suffered when the mayor pulled a pencil-holding cup out of her hand Aug. 14.

The incident occurred while Blackmer was cleaning out her desk after Hite fired her. He said he was trying to prevent her from taking the cup until he could determine whether it belonged to the town.
