Othello

Several staff members at Othello Community Hospital say CFO Leon Walsh’s recent article in the hospital newsletter was inappropriate. Walsh claims his column on the September and October birth rate was tongue in cheek. Interim administrator Fay Coats says she should have nixed the article’s publication. Both Coats and Walsh have apologized.

Ferry County

Curlew

The best chili in Ferry County is made by Arkansas John. John Alexander was the unanimous winner of the Ferry County Chamber of Commerce’s Curlew Chili Cook-Off. The concoction was medium hot, sans beans. Arkansas gave credit to his friend Don Longfellow for his garlic contributions to the recipe.

The most unique award went to Sharon Ruck for Green Pork Chili, while Bill Hooper’s No Bean Chili won the People’s Choice Award.

Moses Lake

Another methamphetamine lab was brought down here last week. Police raided a trailer lab in the Longview Tracts shortly after 9 a.m. on Oct. 31. The owner of the trailer was not home, but will be charged with manufacturing and possession of methamphetamine, police said.

Lincoln County

Davenport

Cancer patients in Lincoln County will no longer be forced to drive to Spokane to seek treatment. Drs. Joni Nichols and Robert Laugen of Cancer Care Northwest have contracted with Lincoln Hospital and North Basin Health Services to run oncology clinics in Davenport twice per month. Cancer clinics will begin Nov. 15.

Members of the Sandpoint Junior Rifle Team earned new shooting ranks. Dewayne Renfro and Keith Balch obtained the rank of Pro Marksman. Kyle Henry achieved the ranks of Pro Marksman and Marksman. Ryan Kingsley received Marksman and Marksman First Class and Aza Dhaenens received the rank of sharpshooter. Nick Wolf and Hans Solum obtained all four rankings.

Gritman Medical Center’s First Step Volunteer of the Month is Leilani Alamillo. Alamillo started in April and is flexible, compassionate and devoted to helping families with newborns adjust, according to Marci Schreiber, coordinator of the program.

The Victorian Dickens Festival includes Queen Victoria’s Royal Feast, hot wassail, roasted chestnuts, a high tea with four courses and Victorian gifts, an antique puppet show, a Christmas Craft Faire, a candlelight character parade and town caroling.
