‘Grosse Pointe’ Offers Lessons

As the new TV season continues to unfold, Our Generation will offer occasional reviews of new shows that may draw a teenage audience. Here is one:

“Grosse Pointe” is a TV show inside a TV show which is really kind of cool.

The episode I saw is about a girl named Hunter, who is a big-time actor on this TV sitcom called “Grosse Pointe.”

She hears about a job playing the role of Monica Lewinsky in a movie about the Whitehouse scandal. The director of the movie, Oliver Stone, says that she must gain 40 pounds because Monica was chunky.

Then Hunter discovers the joy of eating. After one week of eating nothing but junk food, she was told that Oliver Stone had chosen Reese Witherspoon for the role.

Hunter was peeved.

Then on the sitcom “Grosse Pointe” that she also appears in, Hunter’s weight gain causes her to binge. Then, she was approached by the directors of “Grosse Pointe” and asked about her weight gain. She misunderstood and had thought that they wanted her to lose weight because actresses are supposed to be thin. But the point they were making was that her weight didn’t matter as long as she was happy with herself.

This TV show was one of the best I have seen in a long time, not just because the show was well written and funny, but because some good points were made such as we should like being ourselves and don’t worry about what others think of you.

I give two definite thumbs up, loud applause and a thank you to the directors for including some positive influences in television.
