Border League Coaches Impressed With Vikings
Not one team dominated the Border League football honors announced by coaches Tuesday.
But the choices of most valuable offensive and defensive players were no-brainers. Coeur d’Alene senior running back Paul Ziegler, who gained more than 2,000 yards, was named the offensive MVP and Cheney senior linebacker Ben Woodard and CdA senior linebacker Ben Wolfe were named the defensive MVPs. Woodard was also named offensive back of the year.
CdA coach Shawn Amos was named coach of the year for taking the Vikings to the state playoffs for the first time since 1994.
Other individual honors were: Drew Burton of Moscow was named offensive lineman of the year; Matt Reifsnyder of Sandpoint was named return specialist and defensive back of the year; Nate Page of Moscow was named kicker of the year; Jeff Edwards of Lake City was named defensive lineman of the year; and Matt Scott of Sandpoint was named linebacker of the year.
Here is the first team offense: J.C. Davault of Sandpoint, Matt Stern of LC and Brian Baugh of Clarkston, quarterbacks; Kyle Hutchison of Post Falls, Adam Pegg of Cheney and Steve Jackson of Sandpoint, running backs; Jason Clovis of Clarkston, Craig McIntyre of West Valley and Darnell Williams of Moscow, wide receivers; Luke Anderson of LC and Nate Alderman of CdA, tight ends; and Brian Babcock of CdA, Josh Sheppard of Clarkston, Kyle Baker of LC, C.J. Reeves of Sandpoint, Jason Frink of Post Falls and Andy Gardner of Cheney, linemen.
