Comments In Brief: The Voters Speak

The following comments were made Tuesday by voters in Idaho:

“If I thought he had a chance in Idaho, I would have voted for Gore. To me, Nader was the only one who was straightforward.”

Bill Burch, Coeur d’Alene

“For me the big choice was morality. I’m concerned about the abortion issue. I voted for Bush, because he might be able to appoint people to the Supreme Court who could swing things a bit.”

Janey Leyva, Naples

“I didn’t want to vote for corporate America. I just voted middle-class America. It’s called self-protection. It’s just the way we were raised …”

Bill Strane, Spirit Lake

“I think representation of Idaho issues at the national level (is important), particularly how federal lands are administered in Idaho.”

Michael Carpenter, Boise.

“I know he’s tough, but I believe from what I’ve heard and seen that he’s fair. I thought (the race) was a little nasty.”

Phyllis Giao, Hayden, on retaining Magistrate Eugene Marano

“I believe in the working man and I believe Republicans do what I want as far as small business.”

Aaron Smith, Hayden

“I voted the NRA ticket … I like to bear my arms and I think Gore would take them away.”

Ted Doherr, Spirit Lake

“Gore scares me.”

Bob Crump, Post Falls

“I believe Bush is really a liberal at heart. I voted for Howard Phillips because I believe George Bush is not taking Constitutional issues seriously.”

Ed Dunne, Post Falls

“It’s hard to always know who is the best. You just hope you’re right.”

Sylvia Evans, Boise.

“We need a real watchdog in Washington, and Butch (Otter) will be a watchdog. We’re getting too much of our land locked up.”

James Gore, Boise

“People are ignorant about corporations running America. I knew Idaho would go for Bush, so I voted for Nader to make a statement. I think what he has to say needs to be heard over and over.”

Carrick Remaley, Naples

“I voted for Gore. It’s the best of the two evils.”

Jim Nelson, Hauser Lake

“I went with Rocky. Pulver’s negativity turned me off. Rocky never really shot back.”

Bobbi Holmes, Coeur d’Alene on keeping Kootenai County sheriff Rocky Watson
