Get A Hunch/Bet A Bunch

Just got back from celebrating Breeders’ Cup Saturday in Las Vegas, happy to see that jockey Mike Hayashi is still plugging away at Playfair.

See, Mike and I are running in tandem. He has yet to win in 52 trips to the post. I’m something like nothing for my last 52 trips to the betting windows. I’m not sure if he’s the Dan Weaver of the jockey colony or I’m the Mike Hayashi of handicapping.

Anyway, I don’t necessarily Wanna Be Like Mike any more than he wants more horses who run like Dan.

So I’m throwing $3 across on his two mounts on tonight’s card - Jacarorose in the fifth and Morie in the seventh - just because if he scores, I don’t want to be the only regular to remain oh-for-autumn.

Actually, I admire Hayashi. Race-riding is tough enough when you’re making a fortune. It’s getting cold, and this game is always dangerous. It’d be easier to sleep in and head for the buffet table.

If I had a hat, it would be off to Mike Hayashi.

At least he’s got me on one count. He probably hasn’t gone through a grand in dumb bets.

SIXTH: $25 win, $25 place on TIP MY CAP.

SEVENTH: $3 across on MORIE in the seventh.

EIGHTH: $3 across on HIGH POWERED MACK. $1 superfecta wheel HIGH POWERED MACK, EASSTBOUNDROCKET, MAJOR WAVE and HAYDEN STORM.

Last time out (Wednesday): Lost $127.
